Today is National Boss’s Day. Most of us have a boss (or ten) – someone we report to, ask permission to go on vacation from, and if we’re really lucky, be inspired by on a daily basis.

But just how common are great bosses? A glance at any Glassdoor review or visiting Someecards would indicate that they are pretty rare. As a performance improvement company, it’s easy for us to say that you have to train to be a great leader. But it’s true.

Traits like integrity, ambition, and the ability to build trust with stakeholders are key for sure, but the day-to-day functions of a great leader can be taught. Every other article from Inc., Harvard Business Review, and Forbes is on Traits of a Good Leader or How to Differentiate Great from Good Leaders – we want this information. We want to be great leaders and to be led by greatness as well.

As a leader, it’s your job to see opportunities that others do not. It is your responsibility to set the tone, to provide the example, and make the vision/mission/values more than just a sign on the wall.

Great leaders never stop learning – they always strive to know more about their service, their team’s strengths, and realize that training isn’t just for the staff. It’s for everyone.

To nurture the great boss in each of us, take a look at some of our leadership courses and business book summaries. And to go one better, give us a call and we’ll help you craft a leadership curriculum that highlights strengths and addresses problem areas.

Or if you’d prefer gifts from fearful employees, just let us know. We could arrange that, too.
